We got to know of this after seeing his results and running an enquiry in his school and coaching centres.” A mobile shop owner observed that Avdhoot visited his shop every week and exchanged his brand new cell-phone with another one. Sensing something amiss, the shop owner alerted the police on April 18, who kept a watch on him for a week.

On April 21, the police got information of a stolen bike from the Regional Transport Office that gave them the main lead. “The number of the stolen bike did not exist. Suspecting that he might be the same boy (behind mobile and bike theft), we inspected his rented room (in college hostel) and found jewellery, two laptops, smartphones and around five expensive wrist watches,” added Deshpande.
